Google Battles Great Firewall of China

Google has embarked on a heroic quest (some would call it downright quixotic) to get China to tear down (and or at least crack open a bit) its Great Firewall of forced (and pretty well strictly enforced up to this point) censorship of Internet traffic, inlcuding Google's search engine results. Not one to lightly entertain any significant changes that might threaten the very existence of its one party rule, the Communist Party is of course downplaying this dust-up with Google, knowing that it holds most of the cards. While Google has non-trivial current and potentially even larger future economic interests at stake in confronting China about its brazen efforts to hack into sensitive Google email files (especially those of suspected dissidents), Google appears to have decided that its "Do No Evil" mantra might actually be worth standing behind (and living up to) for a change, since their previous behavior with China was "go along to get along", including going along with the strict censorship rules demanded by the Chinese government. The moral of this story is that morals and ethics do really count and are worth preserving, even if it costs you a pretty penny (or yuan). So now that Google has climbed onto the moral high ground in this very public tiff with China, what happens next in this intriguing match of the ancient game of Go? Will the forces of good win the day or will the forces of evil prevail? Stay tuned and find out.
